Barrie Marson was a very accomplished man.  He graduated from Nottingham University in Physics, joining the De Havilland Aircraft Corporation. He then headed a team at Kent Automaton Systems in Luton, and notably was chairman of Oxford Instruments from 1971 to 1986, during which time they developed the first NMR (now MRI) scanner. For this he received the OBE in 1985.

He retired to Hampshire where he enjoyed sailing, and was hugely involved in his local community, volunteering for community driving, RNLI fundraising, and the promotion and research of local history.
